Fresno State Hands Highlanders Fifth Straight Loss, 80-57

Fresno, CA - The UC Riverside women's basketball team had an early lead but could not stop a Fresno State offensive attack in the second half as the Bulldogs handed the Highlanders their fifth straight loss, 80-57, at the Save Mart Center on Monday evening in non-conference action.
UCR drops to 6-7 overall, and their five-game losing streak is the most since the team lost five in a row from Dec. 27-Jan. 9 of last season.
The Highlanders were down just four at half, but the Bulldogs (9-5) shot 58.3 percent and outscored UCR 49-30 in the second period for the win. UC Riverside got within seven points on two occasions early in the period, but Fresno State pushed its lead back to double digits and pulled away late in the game.
Tre'Shonti Nottingham scored a career-high 19 points while Alyssa Morris added 14 and Brittany Waddell had 11. Fresno State's Rousi Moult had 21 points to lead all players.
To open the game, the Bulldogs took a 5-0 lead by forcing three Highlanders turnovers within the first 1:20 of play. UCR rallied and turned a 9-4 deficit into an 11-9 advantage by scoring seven straight points, capped off by a Leah Washingtion jumper at the 14:25 mark.
Six minutes later, the Highlanders led by their largest margin of the half at 23-16, but were then held to just four points the rest of the period as Fresno State outscored UCR 15-4 to close the half.
For the game, UCR shot 40.0 percent and FS hit 47.2 percent of its shots. The Bulldogs also capitalized on 37 points off 24 Highlanders turnovers, and out rebounded them 36-28.
The Highlanders return to Big West Conference play with a road contest at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, January 8 at 3:00 pm in Fullerton, CA.
