Riverside—The UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team has one more game remaining on its schedule before ringing in the New Year—a Wednesday, December 28 road trip to UT San Antonio for a 5 pm PT tip.
The Highlanders are coming off of a 66-64 home win over San Jose State prior to the Christmas holiday. It was UC Riverside’s third win of the season by a margin of three points or less against zero defeats. Kevin Bradshaw led UCR with a season-high 16 points and 10 rebounds for his second career double-double in the victory.
Phil Martin leads the Highlanders in scoring and rebounding on the year averaging 15.6 points and 5.6 boards per game. Kareem Nitoto is also closing in on a double-digit scoring average at 9.8 per game.
UT San Antonio enters the game with a 6-5 mark following a 76-70 win over Troy. Melvin Johnson III led the Roadrunners with 25 points thanks to 6 of 7 shooting from three-point range.
Johnson is one of four UTSA players averaging double figures in scoring on the year led by Kannon Burrage’s 15.7 per game. Jerome Hill (11.2) and Michael Hale III (10.6) are also averaging double digits on the season.
As a team, the Roadrunners connect on 38.4 percent of their three-pointers, 45.8 percent of their field goal attempts and 78.0 percent of their free throws.
The Highlanders and Roadrunners split the first two meetings between the clubs. UCR won the most recent contest taking an 82-75 win on December 2, 2010. Martin, Nitoto and Javon Borum combined to score 63 points in the win going 10 of 20 from three-point range in the process.
