UC Riverside at Loyola Marymount Game Notes
Los Angeles—The UC Riverside Baseball Team is looking to even its four-game series with Loyola Marymount on Sunday as the Lions took two of the first three games including game two of yesterday's double header at the Riverside Sports Complex. First pitch is slated for 1 pm PT, and fans who are unable to attend the game may follow it live as the Voice of the Highlanders, Ghizal Hasan, brings the call to gohighlanders.com via Stretch Internet's Game Central.
Trevor Frank (3-3, 8.46 in 2010) gets the start for the Highlanders, and he has a tough act to follow as UCR pitching boasts a 1.73 earned run average thus far in the 2011 season including Matt Larkins eight-inning 11-strikeout, no-walk performance in game one of Saturday's twin bill.
Unfortunately, LMU's pitching has been equally as effective posting an identical 1.73 ERA on the season. The Highlanders are hitting .250 as a team with a .321 on base percentage and a .302 slugging percentage. Only four UCR players are hitting better than .250 on the season led by Dan Pellegrino's .625 and Tony Nix's .417.
Last season UC Riverside and Loyola Marymount split their four games, but the scores were markedly different as the teams combined to score 70 runs. The Highlanders won their two games by 8-6 and 16-6 scores, while the Lions wins came in the form of 10-3 and 11-10 decisions. In the first inning of UCR's 16-6 victory last season the Highlanders scored more runs (seven) then they have scored in three games this season.
