2/22/2011 10:12:12 AM | Men's Basketball
Riverside—The UC Riverside community is shining a spotlight on the university's Operation Education Scholarships as part of the men's basketball team's Military Appreciation Night celebration on Saturday, March 5 when the Highlanders take on UC Irvine.
Tip is slated for 7 pm PT, and tickets to the game may be obtained by contacting the UC Riverside Athletics Ticket Office at (951) 827-4653. All military members—active, reserved, retired and dependant—are admitted free with their military ID.
UC Riverside launched Opeation Education in May of 2010 to provide funding to injured veterans for education-related expenses, including adaptive equipment, counseling, child care, specialized medical care, personal care, off-campus transportation, tutoring, individually-prescribed devices or equipment, and other costs not covered by the G.I. Bill.
As part of UCR's March 5 celebration Kit Fugrad, UCR theater major and Air Force veteran, will perform the national anthem; members of the military will present the colors; and all students, faculty and staff who have served in the military will be honored during halftime ceremonies.
