UCR Among Four Teams Battling For Final Three Big West Postseason Berths

UC Riverside vs. Pacific Game Notes
Riverside—Five teams have clinched berths in the 2011 ampm Big West Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament, and the Highlanders are one of four squads battling for the final three spots along with Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine and UC Davis. UC Riverside is currently in seventh place with four games remaining, and has its destiny in its own hands.
The good news is that all four of UCR's remaining games are at home, and two of the games are against the Anteaters and Aggies, both of whom trail the Highlanders in the standings. That gives UC Riverside ample opportunity to put some distance between themselves and UCD and UCI.
The bad news is that the Highlanders are just 1-3 this season against their final four opponents, with double-digit losses to Long Beach State, UC Davis and Thursday's opponent, the Pacific Tigers. Game time Thursday is slated for 7 pm PT. Fans who are unable to attend tha game can listen live as the Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, bring the call from courtside to gohighlanders.com via Stretch Internet's Game Central.
The Tigers are still in the hunt for second place as they trail Cal Poly by a game and a half for the two seed. They have won four of their last five Big West contests, and are led by Sam Willard who averages 15.3 points and 10.8 rebounds per game while connecting on 49.7 percent of his field goal attempts and 39.6 percent of his three-pointers.
The Highlanders have dropped three conference games in a row after back-to-back wins over Northridge and Fullerton. The team's offense has stagnated of late averaging 48 points per game over its past four decisions. Javon Borum (13.9 ppg) and Phil Martin (13.8) continue to pace the UCR offensive attack.
