UC Riverside at Cal State Northridge Game Notes
Northridge, CA—The UC Riverside Baseball Team (23-19, 6-9) continues to have its sites set on an upper division finish in the Big West Conference, and with nine games remaining on the Highlanders' schedule, they are two games back of Long Beach State and UC Davis who are tied for fourth with 8-7 records.
This weekend, UCR travels to Cal State Northridge for a three-game series with the Matadors. Fans who can't attend the games can listen to all of the action online as the Voice of the Highlanders, Ghizal Hasan, brings the call to gohighlanders.com via Stretch Internet's Game Central.
CSUN is 20-27 on the season, but 3-12 in conference. They have dropped eight of their last 10, but two of those wins came against UC Santa Barbara in their most recent Big West series. The Matadors pitching staff has been their primary Achilles Heal in 2011 with an earned run average of 5.45. Opposing batters hit .316 against them on the year.
Offensively, Marty Bowen (.329) and Drew Muren (.302) are the only hitters boasting batting averages above .300 but most of their regulars are in the .250-.290 range for a team batting average of .263.
Trevor Hairgrove continues to pace the UCR offense with a slash line of .353/.425/.453 while Matt Andriese and Eddie Orozco, the Highlanders Friday and Saturday starters this weekend, have identical 2.47 earned run averages to lead the squad.
