UC Riverside at USC Game Notes
Los Angeles, CA—The UC Riverside Baseball Team is headed to Los Angeles Tuesday evening looking to start a new winning streak and avenge an early-season loss to USC. First pitch is slated for 6 pm PT, and fans who are unable to attend the game may listen live as the Voice of the Highlanders, Ghizal Hasan, brings the call to gohighlanders.com via Stretch Internet's GameCentral.
The Highlanders had a seven game winning streak snapped on Sunday in a 9-5 loss to UC Santa Barbara, and they will need to start a new one quickly if they are going to climb back into the NCAA postseason race. With a 22-15 overall mark and a 6-6 record in conference, the Highlanders have a Pseudo RPI rank of 115 heading into the weekend according to boydsworld.com.
At the end of each of the past two seasons, UC Riverside's RPI has been in the low 70s, and each time they have been passed over. The Highlanders have seven games remaining on their schedule with teams that can boot UCR's RPI, and five against teams that UCR has to beat in order to not lose any ground beginning with Tuesday's game at USC.
Dustin Emmons (4-2, 4.95) gets the start for UCR against the Trojans. Last week against San Diego State the senior right hander enjoyed his best outing of the season throwing seven innings, allowing just five his, walking one and giving up two runs as the Highlanders won 5-3. He is scheduled to square off against USC left hander Kyle Richter who brings a 2-1 record and 4.30 ERA into the game.
The Trojans have lost five straight games including a 7-1 loss last week to Big West foe Long Beach State. They are 18-25 overall and in sixth place in the Pac-10 with an 8-10 mark, but they still have games remaining with Arizona State (No. 4 Pseudo RPI), Oregon State (No. 9), Washington State (No. 39) and UC Irvine (No. 61) to bolster their postseason chances.
