UC Riverside vs. No. 10 Cal State Fullerton Game Notes
Riverside—The UC Riverside Baseball Team got back on the winning track Tuesday with a 10-6 win at USC, but in order to get back in the race for an NCAA berth, they are going to have to start making some noise against the likes of this weekend's opponent, tenth-ranked Cal State Fullerton.
Fans who are unable to make it out to the Riverside Sports Complex can listen online as the Voice of the Highlanders, Ghizal Hasan, brings the call to gohighlanders.com via Stretch Internet's Game Central.
Friday and Saturday's games are set to begin at 6 pm PT while Sunday's game starts at 1 pm.
Two weekends ago, the Highlanders moved up nearly 50 spots in the rankings to the low 100s with a sweep over CSU Bakersfield, who began that series ranked 20th in the nation. With an RPI of 22, Cal State Fullerton offers UC Riverside its best chance at moving up into the 60s and 70s where they can begin to get into the bubble discussion.
The Highlanders weekend rotation of late has consisted of Matt Andriese (3-3, 2.33) on Friday, Eddie Orozco (3-1, 2.41) on Saturday and Trevor Frank (2-2, 3.77) on Sunday. The Titans will counter with Noe Ramirez (6-2, 2.04), Tyler Pill (5-1, 2.31) and an as yet to be determined Sunday starter.
Andriese, who battled some tough luck with regards to his won-loss record early in the season, has turned that around going 3-0 over his last four starts with an earned run average of 0.82 over 33.0 innings.
Tervor Hairgrove continued his torrid hitting Tuesday evening with a three for five performance at USC with two RBIs and three runs scored. Since April 5, the senior shortstop is batting .493 with a .544 on base percentage and a .681 slugging percentage to go along with 18 RBIs and 17 runs during the 16-game stretch. Not coincidentally, the Highlanders are 12-4 over that span.
The TItans have hit a bit of a rough patch (for them) over the past two weeks going 3-4 dropping a conference series to Cal Poly two weekends ago and losing single games at San Diego and to Pacific.
