Men's Soccer Begins Big West Play With Wednesday Home Match vs. #6 UCSB
9/26/2011 7:36:00 AM | Men's Soccer
Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team has history in its sights this Wednesday as the team looks to extend its program-best unbeaten streak to six matches and move four matches over the .500 mark for the first time ever. Standing in their way, however, are the sixth-ranked UC Santa Barbara Gauchos.
Kick off at the UCR Soccer Stadium is slated for 7 pm PT and fans who are unable to attend may follow the match on their computers and select mobile devices via LiveStats.
The Highlanders have two career wins over Top-25 competition to their credit—A 2-0 win at San Diego State on September 4, 2007 when the Aztecs were ranked #21 in the nation, and a 2-1 home win over #7 UC Davis on October 18, 2008. The Gauchos would be the highest ranked opponent UC Riverside has ever defeated should the Highlanders pull off the upset.
UC Santa Barbara and the Highlanders have tangled with one another on 18 occasions, and the Gauchos own a 16-1-1 record in the series. UC Riverside's lone win came in the form of a 1-0 victory at the UCR Soccer Stadium on October 11, 2006.
This Saturday, UCR travels to UC Davis where they take on an Aggies squad that has lost three straight matches including a 3-2 double overtime home defeat vs. Sacramento State on Friday, September 23. Follow the match on GameTracker.
The Aggies are 9-3-0 against the Highlanders in 12 meetings, but the teams have split their last four contests with UCR picking up a 1-0 win on November 3, 2010 and a 2-1 victory on October 18, 2008 when UCD was ranked seventh in the nation.
