Riverside—Big West Conference play gets underway this Saturday as the UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team hosts Cal Poly at 1 pm PT.
The Highlanders are coming off of an eight-point loss to Air Force that saw them erase a 13-point first-half lead before falling to the Falcons (box score/recap). Chris Patton led UCR with 14 points and seven boards. It was the second straight double-digit scoring effort for the junior from Australia.
Junior Chris Harriel still leads the Highlanders offense averaging 10.4 points per game with Patton just behind at 10.0. Josh Fox leads UCR in rebounding and is second among conference newbies with 6.4 boards per game.
The Mustangs enter conference play with a 3-1 mark at home, but just a 1-5 record on the road. That one win, however, was a 70-68 victory at nationally-ranked UCLA.
Cal Poly boasts three players that average 10.0 points or more: junior Chris Eversley (16.4), freshman Brian Bennett (10.2) and senior Dylan Royer (10.0).
The Highlanders and Mustangs have split 86 previous meetings, with Cal Poly winning the two most recent games between the clubs—54-52 on February 9, 2012 (box score/recap), and 66-54 in the first round of the Big West Conference Tournament on March 8, 2012 (box score/recap). UC Riverside’s last win over the Mustangs came in a 60-53 decision on January 14, 2012 (box score/recap).
