McDonald Pitches Shut-Out As Softball Defeats Portland State 5-0

Riverside, CA - Jordyn McDonald pitched a complete-game, two-hitter on Thursday afternoon as the UC Riverside softball team defeated Portland State 5-0 in game one of the Highlander Classic at Amy S. Harrison Field.
McDonald also struck out eight batters and walked just three while earning her third victory of the season.
The Highlanders (5-10) quickly took a 4-0 lead after putting down a four-spot in the first inning.
With the bases loaded, Viking's (7-8) pitcher Raya Johnson threw a wild pitch, allowing Kayla White to score from third base.
After a walk loaded the bases for the second time, Johnson again had control issues as a second wild pitch brought home Ariel Shore.
With two outs, Alexis Pickett laced a double down the left field line, scoring two additional runners as the lead grew to 4-0.
UC Riverside added an insurance run in the third as a bases-loaded walk to Yesenia Duenas scored Jessica Vasser from third.
That was all the scoring the Highlanders would need as they went on for the 5-0 victory.
UC Riverside next faces off against Maine at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 2 at Amy S. Harrison Field in Riverside.
