GAME NOTES
STREAKING
After dropping nine of their first 10 games, the Highlanders have since won six of eight.
DON'T SHUT ME OUT
UC Riverside shutout Portland State on two occasions during the Highlander Classic, winning 5-0 on March 1 and defeating them 8-0 in five innings on March 4.
OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION
After scoring a combined three runs in five games from Feb. 17-19, the Highlanders exploded for 28 runs over their next four games. Included in that total was a season-high 12 runs against South Dakota on Feb. 26.
OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION II
UC Riverside's 12 runs against South Dakota on Feb. 26 are the most since the team scored 14 against Longwood on March 13, 2009. The 12 runs also ties for fourth on the UCR Division I single-game charts for most runs.
SHOWING NO MERCY
UCR has eight-run, mercy-ruled three opponents so far in 2012—UIC on Feb. 24, South Dakota on Feb. 26, and Portland State on Mar. 4—the most times since the 2007 squad mercy-ruled three opponents.
FEELING A LITTLE RANK
The Highlanders faced off against the top team in country on Feb. 18, dropping a 10-0 ballgame to Cal. The Golden Bears were the first ranked opponent UCR has faced since playing #4 Arizona on March 6, 2011.
ALL-BIG WEST
The UC Riverside softball team placed three players on the 2011 All-Big West Team. Kayla White was named to the first team—just the third Highlanders player in the program's Division I history to gain a spot on the league's top squad—while Kameryn Hebenton and Brittany Keeney were named to the All-Big West Second Team.
COACHING CHANGES
UC Riverside will have two new faces in the dugout this season, as Michell Vlahos joins the Highlanders as an assistant coach, and former player Kameryn Hebenton joins the staff as a volunteer coach.
