Fresno, CA—The UC Riverside Baseball Team finishes up final exams this week before heading off to Fresno State where they will play a three-game weekend series with the Bulldogs. First pitch Friday is slated for 6:05 pm PT.
The Highlanders remain on the road the rest of the week with a Tuesday, March 27 trip to San Diego State and the first conference series of the season at UC Santa Barbara on March 30-April 1.
UC Riverside's rotation remains the same with Dylan Stuart (2-2, 4.85) getting the nod on Friday night, Eddie Orozco (3-1, 1.65) taking the hill on Saturday evening, and Trevor Frank (0-3, 4.50) taking the ball on Sunday afternoon.
Orozco is coming off of a Saturday, March 10 performance that saw the senior right-hander earn multiple national Pitcher of the Week honors following a three-hit, 15-strikeout performance in a 1-0 win over Sacramento State.
That helped UC Riverside pick up its first series win of the season as the Highlanders took two of three from the Hornets over the weekend.
On the offensive side of the ledger, Eddie Young has been UCR's hottest hitter of late batting .500 with six runs, six RBIs and three doubles over his last eight games. His batting average is up to .373 on the season (sixth best in the Big West) and his on base percentage is now .452 (seventh).
Phil Holinsworth has also been hitting the ball well over his last nine games batting .333 with 10 runs scored, six RBIs, and seven extra base hits (2 2Bs, 3 3Bs, 2 HRs). He's increased his team-leading slugging percentage to .536 which ranks seventh in the conference.
Fresno State is 12-9 on the season following a two-game, mid-week sweep of Kent State. They have won their last five ball games including a pair of wins over CSU Bakersfield and a 3-2 victory over UC Santa Barbara.
The Bulldogs strength in 2012 has been their pitching as they boast a 3.44 earned run average on the season. They will throw LHP Tyler Linehan (3-1, 1.51) on Friday, RHP Justin Haley (2-1, 2.57) on Saturday and LHP Thomas Harlan (3-3, 1.89) on Sunday.
Only three Fresno State regulars are hitting .300 or better on the season, catcher Trent Garrison (.328), outfielder Daniel Moultrie (.308) and outfielder Aaron Judge (.300). Six additional players with at least 49 at bats are hitting .250 or below.
