Los Angeles, CA—The UC Riverside Baseball Team is looking to get back on the winning track this Tuesday evening having lost four of its last five games, but the Highlanders will have their work cut out for them as their opponent is 16th-ranked UCLA. First pitch at the Bruins' Jackie Robinson Stadium is slated for 6 pm PT.
The Highlanders send junior right-hander Mitch Patito (1-0, 2.70) to the mound this evening for his third start of the year. Freshman left-hander Grant Watson (2-0, 7.62) gets the start for UCLA. His last outing came in a one-out relief appearance during the Bruins 5-2 win over Sacramento State on May 2. He got the start for UCLA on Febuary 28 against Long Beach State and allowed just one hit and one walk in four innings.
The Highlanders beat UCLA one year ago in a dramatic 5-4 decision that saw Tony Nix send the game into extra innings with a bloop single to right center, and Bryan Horst bring home the game-winner with a double down the left field line in the 11th that scored Kyle Boudreau (watch the play). The Bruins were ranked 16th in the nation at that time as well.
