Riverside—David Andriese drove in six runs Wednesday evening as the UC Riverside Baseball Team won consecutive games for just the second time this season in a 13-5 victory over visiting UNLV.
Offense has been hard to come by for the Highlanders (12-18) this year, but that wasn't the case in game two of their two-game set with the Rebels. UC Riverside's first three batters reached base in the top of the first inning off of UNLV (17-21) starter Scott Dysinger. The next hitter, David Andriese brought all three home with a triple off the wall in deep right center field.
Clayton Prestridge lifted a sac fly to left to put the Highlanders up four, and following a walk issued to Drake Zarate, Dysinger (0-1) was lifted in favor of Andy Beresford.
Beresford recorded the final two outs of the first and the first two outs of the second, but Phil Holinsworth and Vince Gonzalez singled to put runners at first and second, bringing Andriese to the plate. The sophomore drilled an 0-1 offering over the right field fence to make it 7-0 UC Riverside giving the Highlanders all the runs they would need.
Eddie Young's sacrifice fly in the third made it 8-0 UCR, but the Rebels ended the shutout in the top of the fourth as Brandon Bayardi hit a solo shot over the left field wall off of Highlanders reliever Antonio Gonzales.
A two-out error by UNLV shortstop Dany Higa in the bottom of the fourth brought Prestridge and Andriese plateward to give UC Riverside its largest lead of the day, 10-1.
Higa made up for his miscue in the top of the fifth with a two-run homer to left, and a pair of RBI groundouts in the sixth cut the Highlanders lead in half, 10-5. But UC Riverside tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of an Alex Rubanowitz RBI single that scored a pair, and another Rebels error gave the Highlanders their lucky 13th run in the bottom of the seventh.
Mitch Patito (2-3) pitched the first three innings allowing just one hit and striking out five to earn the win.
