Riverside—The UC Riverside Baseball Team returns to conference play this week finishing up its 12-game home stand with a three-game series against UC Davis. First pitch at the Riverside Sports Complex on Friday and Saturday is slated for 6 pm PT, with Sunday's game set to start at 1 pm.
The Highlanders bring a two-game winning streak into the weekend having swept a pair of mid-week games from UNLV. The UC Riverside offense came alive in the second game against the Rebels, scoring 13 runs on the day. That marked just the third time this season that the Highlanders scored in double figures, and the first time since a March 9, 15-4 victory over Sacramento State.
David Andriese drove in six runs in the win over UNLV with a three-run triple and a three-run homer raising his slugging percentage to a team-high .413 in the process. Eddie Young continues to lead UCR with a .327 batting average and a .445 on base percentage.
Freshman Kevin Davidson, who was recruited primarily as a pitcher, got his first chance to shine on the offensive side of the ball, starting five of the last six games for the Highlanders as a designtaed hitter and posting a slash line of .526 avg/.571 obp/.579 slg.
UC Riverside's weekend rotation against the Aggies will consist of Dylan Stuart (4-3, 3.32) on Friday, Eddie Orozco (4-4, 2.11) on Saturday and Trevor Frank (0-5, 4.57) on Sunday.
UC Davis counters with LHP Dayne Quist (5-0, 2.04), LHP Anthony Kupbeans (2-4, 3.42) and RHP Tom Briner (2-4, 4.03).
The Aggies took two of three from Pacific over the weekend, but have dropped nine of their last 11 overall. Three of those losses came at Cal State Fullerton, and four were at future Big West foe Hawai'i.
UCD has five regulars batting over .300, but the rest of the lineup has struggled as the team boasts a slash line of just .262/.344/.327.
