Stockton, CA—The UC Riverside Baseball Team banged out 11 hits and scored the first five runs of the ballgame taking a 5-2 win over Pacific on Friday evening.
Eddie Orozco scattered seven hits over eight innings in picking up his fifth win of the season. The Tigers managed just three hits over the first five innings of play as the Highlanders (18-26, 6-10) built a 5-0 lead.
Bart Steponovich drove in the first run of the game with single to center in the top of the second. Eddie Young added an RBI single of his own later in the inning to stake Orozco to a 2-0 lead.
David Andriese made it a 3-0 Highlanders lead in the top of the third when he drilled a two-out home run to right center.
Devon Bolasky, Vince Gonzalez and Clayton Prestridge connected on back-to-back-to-back singles in the top of the fifth for the Highlanders fourth run of the game, and Steponovich drove home his second run of the game in the top of the sixth to make it a 5-0 game.
Pacific (11-36, 1-15) finally put together a rally in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a walk, a pair of singles and an error. That made it a 5-2 ballgame, but Orozco kept the Tigers off the score board in the seventh and eighth, and Ben Doucette pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save of the season.
