Box Score
Stockton, CA—The Pacific Tigers collected 14 hits off of three different UC Riverside pitchers en route to just their second conference win of the season with an 11-2 victory over the Highlanders (18-27, 6-11).
Trevor Frank (1-7) got the start for UCR on Saturday, and the Tigers (12-36, 2-15) jumped on him early as they strung together four singles in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Pacific loaded the bases in the bottom of the second, stranding all three base runners, but in the bottom of the third, they blew the game open taking advantage of three UC Riverside errors to go up 6-1. The Tigers hadn't scores six runs in a game since a 9-7 loss at UC Davis in the second game of a double header on April 14.
That ended Frank's night as Gavin Mills came out of the pen to start the fourth. The Tigers scored a single run off of him in the bottom of the frame, but Mills retired 10 of the next 11 batters.
The point was moot, however, as Pacific starter Mike Hager (4-5) allowed just two runs in his seven innings of work, striking out seven. Reliever Joe Spizziri didn't allow a hit over the final two innings, and the Tigers scored four more runs in the bottom of the eighth—one off of Mills, and three off of Antonio Gonzales.
The Highlanders and Tigers play the rubber match of their three-game series on Sunday at 1 pm PT.
