Rubanowitz's RBI Double Gives Baseball 1-0 Win Over #8 Cal St. Fullerton

Fullerton, CA—Cal State Fullerton starter Graham Wiest allowed just three hits Sunday evening, but one of them was an RBI double off the bat of Highlanders third baseman Alex Rubanowitz, and that's all UC Riverside needed for a 1-0 victory over the eighth-ranked Titans. (Listen To Audio Highlights)
Wiest allowed just one hit through the first six innings of play, but UC Riverside (21-28, 9-12) starter Dylan Stuart was nearly his equal scattering three hits through six scoreless innings of work
The Highlanders finally broke into the scoring column in the top of the seventh as Kyle Boudreau led off the frame with a single to right center. After Nick Vilter sacrificed him to second, Alex Rubanowitz doubled down the right field line to put UCR up 1-0.
Stuart (7-6) ran into trouble in the bottom of the eighth as the Titans tried to mount a two-out rally. Derek Legg singled through the left side, and Chad Wallach and Richy Pedroza drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Highlanders' Head Coach Doug Smith stuck with his sophomore hurler though, and Stuart got Greg Velazquez to fly out to right to end the threat.
Staurt came out to start the bottom of the ninth and got Carlos Lopez to ground out to third, but Michael Lorenzen ripped a double to left center to put the tying run in scoring position. Matt Chapman grounded out to second moving Lorenzen up 90 feet, but Matt Orloff grounded out to Rubanowitz to end the game.
UC Riverside remains on the road this week heading to Loyola Marymount on Tuesday, and USC on Wednesday.
