Riverside—The UC Riverside Baseball Team (16-26) hosts Loyola Marymount this Wednesday, May 9 at the Riverside Sports Complex in the lone mid-week game for both programs. First pitch is slated for 6 pm PT.
Mitch Patito gets the start for the Highlanders against the Lions (21-21). He's coming off of his best start as a collegian as he pitched seven shutout innings, walking five and striking out six at UNLV on May 2.
Vince Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to 13 games over the weekend. He is now hitting .352 on the season with a team-best .414 slugging percentage.
Devyn Bolasky returned to the team on Friday after missing a month with an injury. He went three for nine against the Matadors with two runs scored. Designated hitter Kevin Davidson also got back into the lineup after missing nine straight games. He went two for four in his first game back extending his career-opening hitting streak to seven straight games before going 0 for 4 on Sunday.
Loyola Marymount was swept over the weekend by Long Beach State in a non-conference series. Two of the games were one-run affairs, and the third was a 7-5 decision. Prior to the series with the Beach, LMU had won six of eight to climb over the .500 mark.
The Lions have one regular hitting over .300—outfielder Zac Fujimoto at .317—but the redshirt junior has just two walks on the entire season and an on base percentage of .337. LMU as a whole owns a slash line of .251/.337/.334.
Left-hander Matt Florer (0-0, 5.97) gets the start for Loyola Marymount. Florer has been used primarily as a reliever this season with 10 of his 14 appearances coming out of the bullpen. He has allowed 37 hits in 31.2 innings on the year while striking out 17 and walking nine. As a team, the Lions have an ERA of 4.11.
LMU has won two straight games over the Highlanders, and took three of four last year between the teams.
