Fullerton, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team returned from the Aloha State early Monday morning, but the team's three-game road trip continues this weekend as the Highlanders travel to Cal State Fullerton for a 6:05 pm PT tip.
UCR (4-11, 1-2) split its first two road games of the conference season picking up a 65-64 win at Cal State Northridge (box score / recap / video of game-winning basket), but dropping a 76-61 decision at Hawai'i (box score/recap).
Junior Chris Patton, who scored the final seven points in the win over the Matadors, including the game-winning bucket, had his streak of four straight double-digit scoring performances snapped at Hawai'i, but he still leads the Highlanders averaging 10.6 points per game. Junior Chris Harriel is close behind him at 10.2 points per game, while freshman Josh Fox is averaging 9.5 points.
Cal State Fullerton (8-6, 2-1) enters the weekend boasting one of the most high-powered offenses in the nation averaging 85.6 points per game overall thanks to 50.4 percent shooting from the field, 41.9 percent from beyond the arc and 77.9 percent from the free throw line. They also have 32 more steals on the season than their opposition.
In conference play, the Titans offense has been even more impressive, averaging 93.0 points on 54.2 percent shooting from the floor, 47.4 percent from three-point range and 81.0 percent from the charity stripe.
Three Cal State Fullerton players are averaging more than 20 points per game in Big West play: Kwame Vaughn (25.0), D.J. Seeley (24.3) and Sammy Yeager (22.0).
Five of the Titans six losses were decided by a combined 13 points, and each of their last three defeats, including a 90-88 loss at Hawai'i, were by two points apiece.
The Highlanders are 17-24 all-time against Cal State Fullerton (all-time results). The Titans won both games last season in a 72-61 victory at Fullerton (box score/recap) and a 77-64 win at the SRC Arena (box score/recap)
