San Luis Obispo, CA—The UC Riverside Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams are gearing up for the Big West Cross Country Championship hosted by Cal Poly on Saturday, November 2 at Fairbanks Memorial Cross Country Course. The men's 8k gets underway at 9:45 am PT with the women's 6k going off at 10:40 am.
The UCR women's team looks to claim its second-ever Big West Championship after taking home the crown in 2008. The Highlanders finished in fourth in 2010 and 2012 and in fifth place in 2009 and 2011.
Last year, a pair of runners earned all-conference accolades as Damajeria DuBose placed fourth individually, and Raquel Hefflin came in ninth (recap). Hefflin has been UC Riverside's top runner in 2013, finishing first on the team in all three races.
The Highlanders men's team finished in second place in 2010, and seeks a return to the top half of the league following a sixth place finish one year ago (recap). Benjamin Heck has led UCR this season, finishing first on the team in all three events.
The men's team is without all-conference runner Seth Totten, who is redshirting the season.
The Big West Cross Country Championship heads to San Luis Obispo for the first time in six years, as UC Riverside had previously served as host from 2008-12. The Mustangs last hosted the championship in 2007.
