Women's Basketball Home Opener Slated For Tuesday At 7 PM Against Bakersfield

Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team returns to the SRC Arena from a six-game road swing for its 2013-14 home opener against Bakersfield on Tuesday, December 3 at 7 pm PT. The Highlanders will then face off against Pepperdine this Friday, December 6 at 7 pm.
The Highlanders earned third-place honors at the Great Alaska Shootout last week following a 1-1 performance. UCR fell to the host Alaska Anchorage Seawolves in double overtime (box score/recap) before rebounding for a 10-point win over Nicholls in the consolation game (box score/recap).
Guard Simone DeCoud was named to the Great Alaska Shootout All-Tournament Team after leading the Highlanders with 20.5 points per game while hitting 56.0 percent from the field including a 50.0 percent clip from beyond the arc. The freshman also averaged 9.0 rebounds a game while dishing out 8.0 assists per game.
DeCoud is now UC Riverside's second-leading scorer at 14.2 points per game behind sophomore Brittany Crain, who is pacing the league with 19.0 ppg. Following back-to-back double-digit scoring efforts, Annelise Ito is the Highlanders third-best scorer averaging 12.3, while Natasha Hadley completes the quartet of double-figure scorers with 11.0 ppg.
The Highlanders are 3-3 this season averaging a league-best 75.7 points per game while also pacing the conference in blocks per game and assists per game.
Bakersfield is coming off of a four-point win against Omaha this past Saturday that improved its record to 2-3. The Runners also boast four players in double-figure scoring led by Tyonna Outland's 21.4 ppg.
As a team, Bakersfield is averaging just 2.3 points per game less than the Highlanders at 73.4.
UC Riverside owns the all-time series record against the Roadrunners, 5-2, including a 75-63 victory at Bakersfield on November 18, 2012 (box score/recap).
