Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team celebrates Senior Day this Saturday as the Highlanders say goodbye to senior guard Robert Smith for the final time at the SRC Arena.
Smith has been UCR's leading assist man in each of the past two seasons, and paces the squad this year in three-point field goal percentage. His 21 points vs. Northern Colorado on December 1, 2012 (box score/recap) marked his high in a UC Riverside uniform, and his 11 rebounds on Thursday aginast UC Irvine were a career high (box score/recap).
The Highlanders got a 14-point, 10-rebound performance out of Chris Patton Thursday evening in addition to Smith's rebounding total, but UC Davis was still able to come away with the seven-point victory.
In addition to this being Smith's last home game for UCR, Saturday also marks the final meeting between the Highlanders and Tigers as conference foes—Pacific makes the move to the West Coast Conference beginning with the 2013-14 season.
The Tigers are in second place in the Big West, three games back of front-running Long Beach State with three to play. If Pacific wins out, and the 49ers lose all of their remaining games, the Tigers will be the number one seed in the conference tournament.
In addition to Saturday's game against UC Riverside, Pacific hosts UC Irvine on Thursday, March 7 and Long Beach State on Saturday, March 9 in a televised game on Fox West.
The Tigers are coming off of a 64-55 win at Cal State Fullerton on Thursday. Travis Fulton led them with 17 points as Pacific overcame 17 turnovers by connecting on 48.9 percent of its field goal attempts.
Fulton is the second leading scorer on the squad at 9.1 points per game. Lorenzo McCloud paces the team with 11.3 points per game.
UC Riverside is 4-19 all-time against the Tigers (view all-time results). Three of those victories have come over the past five seasons. Pacific has won the last two meetings including a 63-58 decision on January 24 of this year (box score/recap).
