Riverside-The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team pitched its second straight shutout to open the 2013 season, Sunday, topping visiting Marist, 2-0 (Box Score/Video Recap).
Â
The play was even during the first period with both teams getting credit for five shots. None of them were on goal, however, and the score was tied at zero at the half.
Â
UC Riverside finally broke through in the 64th minute  as Lomeli's header found its way to Ivan Garcia, who then headed the ball to Aaron Long just outside the Marist box. Long's kick sailed into the upper right-hand corner giving UCR a 1-0 lead.
Â
Just over two minutes later, MJ Stellweg picked up a red card for shoving a UC Riverside player in the back, and the Red Foxes were forced to play a man down the rest of the match.
Â
The Highlanders doubled up the score in the 72nd minute when Hector Romo found Lomeli in the box for a chip shot over the Marist keeper.
Â
That's the second goal of the season for the freshman who scored UC Riverside's lone goal in their 1-0 victory over Iona on Friday night.
Â
The Highlanders are on the road this weekend as they head to Las Vegas where they will take on Georgia State and Bradley.
