RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Highlanders were back in action at the UCR Soccer Stadium tonight with Cal State Fullerton in town. It was the first home match for UC Riverside since school started. UCR battled for the full 90, but came up short to the Titans, 1-0.

UC Riverside had a season high 15 shots and a season high nine on goal but could not find the back of the net. In the final ten minutes of the match UCR had three shots and three great chances to level the score. It started with a set piece from Santiago Barros Schelotto, in the 80', who just missed above the crossbar. Then in the 86' Eric Martinez had a great look but Cal State Fullerton's Max Leviton made the save. Seconds later, in the 87' Diego Ramirez had a great look at it, but again Leviton came up with the save.

The lone goal came in the 74' off a set piece by Jose de la Torre. The Highlanders' defense held strong only allowing six shots with two on target.

"Overall, I think we played them very well," said UC Riverside's Matti Richter post match. He added that they had opportunities but they could not cash in.

Highlanders' coach Tim Cupello echoed Richter's overall sentiments.

"I thought our guys played really well," Cupello added. "[They] came out strong early on and created a lot of really good looks and unfortunately did not finish those chances."

The Highlanders head to Corvallis, Ore., to take on No. 21 Oregon State in Pac-12 Conference play. That match will be on Saturday, October 3 at 7PM. You can watch that match on the Pac-12 Conference YouTube channel.
