Volleyball Falls To Air Force In Straight Sets

Colorado Springs, Colorado -- The UC Riverside Volleyball Team concluded the non-conference portion of its schedule Saturday morning with a 3-0 loss at the Air Force Academy by the scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-22.
Each subsequent set was closer than the last, with 10 tie scores and three lead changes in the third set alone. The Highlanders had the late, one-point lead in the third set, 21-20, but after the Falcons (3-9) tied the set at 22, UCR (1-11) faulted on a serve and Air Force closed it out with consecutive kills for the win.
UCR's Cristina Maietta recorded a game-high 14 kills to lead all players, while Akokwe Clement led a duo of Falcons in double-digit kills.
The Highlanders will now start the Big West Conference portion of their schedule flying to nationally ranked Hawai'i for a Sunday, September 29 match in Honolulu, HI.
