Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team prepares for, arguably, its biggest game of the season, hosting UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, February 20 at 7 pm PT at the SRC Arena.
With only three weeks remaining in the regular season, Big West Tournament positioning is heating up, and the Highlanders are a game behind the Gauchos for the eighth and final tournament spot.
UC Riverside snapped a 16-game losing skid last Saturday with an 87-75 victory over UC Irvine (box score/recap). The Highlanders were on fire from downtown, hitting 61.1 percent of their three-pointers, while boasting four players in double-figures.
Brittany Crain leads the UCR offense averaging a league-best 18.5 points per game, while Annelise Ito, Simone DeCoud, and Natasha Hadley all score between 10.8 and 11.2 ppg.
UC Santa Barbara went 1-1 last week defeating Long Beach State, 80-69, and falling at Cal State Northridge, 78-54. Three of UCSB's players make up the majority of its scoring load, as Nicole Nesbit averages 15.6 ppg, with Melissa Zorning and Destini Mason at 13.7 and 12.2 ppg respectively.
The Gauchos defeated the Highlanders in the teams' previous meeting, 74-61, on January 23, 2014. UCSB has won the last two straight over UCR, and owns the all-time series record, 25-18 (view all-time results).
