UC Riverside Baseball Hosts San Diego State Aztecs Tuesday At The Plex

Riverside—The UC Riverside Baseball Team looks to get back on the winning track this week as they host San Diego State on Tuesday, February 25 following a three-game sweep at the hands of the Texas State Bobcats. First pitch against the Aztecs is slated for 6 pm at The Plex.
The Highlanders were outscored by just five runs in the series against the Bobcats losing 2-0 on Friday (box score/recap), 8-7 in 10 innings on Saturday (box score/recap) and 7-5 on Sunday (box score/recap).
Nick Vilter continued his torrid hitting over the weekend extending his hitting streak to seven games with a slash line of .545 avg/.545 obp/1.182 slg. The junior infielder now leads UC Riverside with a .462 batting average and a .962 slugging percentage. His .500 on base percentage is second only to Joe Chavez's .528.
As a team, the Highlanders are hitting .322/.396/.438. Their pitching staff has a collective 3.79 earned run average, but the defense has struggled with 13 errors in seven games.
Zach Varela gets the start for UC Riverside on Tuesday. The senior right-hander got the win last Monday over Washington State allowing eight hits and two earned runs in 7.2 innings of work.
San Diego State is 5-2 on the season after taking two of three from visiting West Virginia over the weekend. Ty France is the team's leading hitter at .417/.500/.667 while the team as a whole is batting .290/.362/.388. The Aztecs pitching staff boasts an ERA of 3.29.
UC Riverside is 21-35-1 all-time against San Diego State (view all-time results). The teams have split their previous six meetings, but the Aztes took two of three from the Highlanders a year ago.
