Baseball Hosts Grand Canyon In Home Season Finale Tuesday At 3 pm PT

Riverside—The UC Riverside Baseball Team concludes the home portion of its 2014 schedule on Tuesday against Grand Canyon. Originally scheduled for 6 pm PT, the start time was moved to 3 pm late last week.
Following a 1-2 weekend against Long Beach State, the Highlanders (24-26, 11-10) hopes of an NCAA Tournament bid have probably fallen by the wayside, but they can still post their first winning season since 2011, and finish in the upper division of the Big West Conference.
Senior Donovan Gonzales (0-0, 21.60) will make his last home appearance on the hill for UCR as he gets the start Tuesday. Meanwhile Devyn Bolasky (.335), Thomas Walker (.327) and Francisco Tellez (.323) continue to battle it out for the team batting title. Walker has been the Highlanders hottest hitter since the beginning of conference play with an offensive slash line of .346/.395/.474 in Big West games.
Grand Canyon is in its first year of competing at the Division I level, and is 30-22 on the year, including a 19-8 mark in the WAC. Chad De La Guerra and David Walker pace the Antelopes offense with slash lines of .373/.434/.544 and .359/.464/.436 respectively. Two other Grand Canyon starters and key reserves are hitting better than .300 on the season.
This is the final game of the regular season for the Antelopes, who are playing their fifth game in as many days. They dropped a 6-3 decision at USC yesterday, and will start Joey Wise (0-1, 11.57) against the Highlanders. This is just the sixth appearance and second start of the season for Wise, who has logged 4.2 innings on the year with three strikeouts and seven walks.
UC Riverside and Grand Canyon squared off against one another 34 times when both schools were Division II members of the NCAA. The Highlanders are 18-16 all-time against the Antelopes (view all-time results).
