Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Overtime Decision To American University

Albuquerque, NM—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team battled American University Sunday in the final match of the Grange & Ashwill Memorial Tournament for both clubs, but for the second straight match, the Highlanders found themselves on the short end of a one-goal decision, falling to the Eagles, 1-0.
UC Riverside (1-2-0) were coming off of a near upset of #6 New Mexico in the first round of the tournament, while American upset #1 UCLA in their first round match.
Shots on the day were even with the Highlanders outshooting the Eagles 13-10 overall, but American bested UC Riverside in shots on goal by a three to one count.
The shot that mattered came with 3:54 gone in the first overtime as Conor Osborne lifted a ball into the UCR box which found its way to Michael Cherry. Cherry slotted the ball to the near post, giving American (3-1-0) the win.
The Highlanders return home for their next three matches beginning with a Thursday, September 11 meeting with Bakersfield. Kick off at the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium is slated for 7 pm PT.
