The Highlanders had a 9-8 lead early in the second set, before Cal Poly ran off six points in a row to seize control of the set, and lead 14-9. UCR got as close as three points at 20-17, but the Mustangs countered with a 5-3 run to take the set 25-20.
The third set started out tightly contested with ties at 4, 6, and 8 points apiece. The Mustangs created a six-point margin, 16-10, and looked to take control of third frame. The Highlanders would get no closer than five points, trailing 20-15. Cal Poly then won five out of six points to take third set 25-16 and the match 3 sets to none.
