San Francisco, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team is in search of its first 3-0 start to a season since the 1996-97 campaign which saw the Highlanders win their first nine games of the year. Standing in their way Saturday are the San Francisco Dons. Tip at War Memorial at Sobrato Center is slated for 7 pm PT

UCR improved to 2-0 on the season with a 77-63 victory over Santa Clara on Thursday (box score/recap). Jaylen Bland posted his second straight 20-point effort in the win, and newcomer Secean Johnson added a career-high 20 points as well.

Two games into the young season, the Highlanders are connecting on 50.8 percent of their field goal attempts and 45.5 percent from long distance while outscoring the opposition by 23.0 points per game.

San Francisco began its 2015-16 campaign with two straight wins before dropping a 78-71 decision at Fresno State on Thursday.

Devin Watson (17.0 ppg), Tim Derksen (13.0) and Ronnie Boyce (10.0) are all averaging in double figures for the Dons who are outscoring opponents by 7.3 points per game. They are connecting on 43.5 percent of their shots from the field and 37.7 percent from beyond the arc.

San Francisco is prone to turning the ball over, however, as they are averaging more than 16 miscues per game. The Dons have also had 21 shots blocked in their first three games.

This is the first meeting between UC Riverside and San Francisco.
