Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team returns home this Tuesday, November 24 for game two of the Roundball Showcase featuring a 7 pm PT meeting with Delaware State. The Highlanders then head to the Lone Star State for Thanksgiving break for the final two games of the tournament taking on Rice and Lamar.
UCR dropped a heartbreaker Saturday evening as the San Francisco Dons scored six straight points over the last 43 seconds to steal a 58-57 win (
box score/
recap). Malik Thames career-high 15 points went for naught as did a defensive effort that held the Dons to 32.1 percent shooting from the floor and 24.0 percent from three-point range.
Four different members of the Highlanders are averaging double figures led by Taylor Johns' 23.0 points per game. He is joined by Jaylen Bland (17.3), Secean Johnson (14.0) and Robert Boezeman (10.0).
UC Riverside is making 45.9 percent of its field goal attempts and 42.4 percent from beyond the arc. The Highlanders are struggling from the charity stripe, though, attempting just over 12 shots per game, and making 54.1 percent.
Defensively, UCR has clamped down on the opposition allowing just 36.0 percent from the field and 21.3 percent from long range.
Delaware State (0-4) is still searching for its first win of the season following a 77-66 loss to Lamar on Saturday. The Hornets are averaging 59.0 points per game, and still trying to solidify their rotation. Twelve members of the team are averaging 10 or more minutes per game, and eight players have earned starts on the year.
Devin Morgan leads the team in scoring averaging 10.3 points per game, and also averages a team-high 3.3 assists per contest. Delaware State is making 38.0 percent of its field goal attempts and 30.8 percent from three-point range. In addition to being outscored by 9.5 points per game, the Hornets are also being out-rebounded by 8.4 carroms per contest.
This is the first-ever meeting between UC Riverside and Delaware State.
Rice (0-4) is also still looking for its first win of the year, and the Owls take on Lamar on November 25 before welcoming the Highlanders to Tudor Fieldhouse. They are being outscored by more than 20 points per game, and allowing opponents to make 51.7 percent of their shots from the field, including 45.6 percent from three-point range.
Offensively, the Owls are led by Marcus Evans (18.8 points per game) and Egor Koulechov (17.5). The remainder of the team averages 25.9 points per game.
This is also the first-ever meeting between UC Riverside and Rice.
