After going scoreless in the first five innings, the Highlanders bared down, producing five hits and four runs in two innings that included a three-run bomb by Jenna Curtan into right center to tie the game, sending the battle into extra innings.
Taking the mound for UCR in the eighth inning was Chelsea Ponce, who now boasts an 8-2 record and a 0.83 ERA. The Highlanders were able to hold the Aggies scoreless in the top of the eighth, taking the advantage into the bottom of the inning. With Haley Harris placed on second, Natalie Sanchez laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Harris over. On the very next pitch, Harris scored UCR's fifth run on a passed ball.
The Highlanders are back in action for a pair of games against San Diego Sunday, Feb. 22 at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.
