Women's Basketball Looks To Stay Unbeaten In The Big West At Hawai'i

Honolulu, HI—The UC Riverside Women's Basketball team looks stay unbeaten in the Big West at Hawai'i on Saturday, when they take on the Rainbow Wahine in a 9 pm PT tip-off.

The Highlanders (10-7, 3-0) are currently on a four game winning streak, three of those victories have come in Big West competition, which places them in a tie for first place with UC Davis.

In the three wins conference wins, UCR has won by an average of 24 points, and have trailed for just one minute and 42 seconds out of 120 minutes of Big West play. 

Wednesday night at Long Beach State, they won, 78-60, with their defense forcing 17 turnovers and holding the Beach to just 5-of-21 shooting from long the three point line. In the game prior the 49ers made a Big West record 20 threes. (box score/recap)

The Highlanders got a career-high 34 points from Rejane Verin, who also had 10 rebounds, while Annelise Ito also had a double double with 18 points and a season-high tying 13 boards.

Hawai'i (9-7, 2-1) won in their Big West home opener Thursday night against CSUN, 77-50, in front of 1,881 fans.

The Rainbow Wahine were led by Ashleigh Karaitiana, who had 17 points to lead three players in double figures. Kalei Adolpho and Megan Huff scored 12 points apiece in the victory.

Hawai'i was picked to win the Big West in the preseason media poll. UCR is 0-7 all-time against Hawai'i and have lost the last three meetings in Honolulu by ten points or more. (view results)
