Michael Salazar Nets First Goal For Montreal Impact

Toronto, Ontario—Former UC Riverside Men's Soccer player Michael Salazar netted his first goal for the Montreal Impact Wednesday evening, scoring in the 86th minute of a match against Toronto FC in the Amway Canadian Championship semifinal.

Salazar's first professional score came off of a cross from Didier Drogba, one of the best strikers in English Premier League history (watch video of the goal).

Toronto FC came away with the 4-2 win in the match, setting the stage for the second leg of the semifinal meting between the clubs next Wednesday, June 8 at 4:30 pm PT.

The Amway Canadian Championship is an aggregate goals tournament, meaning that in order for Montreal to advance, the Impact need to win next Wednesday's match by two or more goals. The winner of the Montreal-Toronto FC series will advance to play the winner of the Ottawa Fury vs. the Vancouver Whitecaps FC series.

Salazar made his regular-season debut with the Impact on May 7 in a 4-4 tie at Columbus. He has played in three regular-season MLS matches to date, and three of the team's last four matches.

The Impact are in third place in the Eastern Conference with a 5-4-4 record and 19 points—four points back of front-running Philadelphia Union (6-3-5, 23).
