Women's Golf Looks To Defend 2015 Title At The Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate This Weekend

Palm Desert—The UC Riverside Women's Golf Team defends it 2015 title this weekend in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate October 1-2 at the Classic Club (live scoring).

Earlier this week, the Highlanders finished fifth in their first event of the fall season—the Rose City Collegiate in Portland, Oregon. Jakeishya Le (+6) posted the top result on the team tying for 13th, and Paris Griffith (+7) finished tied for 17th, one shot ahead of newcomer Hana Furuichi (+8) in 21st (story).

In last year's Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, Hannah Facchini led UCR in claiming its first of three titles in a historic 2015-16 season. Facchini's 217 (+1) three-round total was good enough for a second place finish in what was last season's opening event (story).

Le, Griffith, Facchini, Yuri Ahn and Furuichi will compete on the UCR A team. Haley Wian, Haley White, Krista Twet, Tina Nagai, and Julia Sander make up the UCR B Team, while Emily Keeler will swing it as an individual for the Highlanders.

"I feel like the team is ready to have a great performance," said Head Coach Mary Ritchie. "We love the course, and our skill as a whole, is looking better than ever."
The 11-team field features three other Big West schools. The first two rounds begin Saturday with an 7:30 am PT shotgun start, with Sunday's final round beginning at the same time (pairings).

The Classic Club's 6,112 yard course is hosting the tournament at par 72. See the Classic Club's Flyover Tour.

Admission is free for spectators, golf attire is preferred.
