UCR Leads 26-22 All-time

Riverside–Just two days removed from picking up their first road victory of the 2017 Big West season, the UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team hosts Cal State Fullerton Saturday, January 21 at 7 pm on ESPN3.

The match-up with the Titans is the second game of a UCR Men's/Women's Basketball double-header, as the Men take on UCSB at 4 pm.

Thursday night in Irvine, the Highlanders beat the Anteaters, 79-58. In the victory, four players scored in double figures, and all 10 players who saw game action scored–a 2016-17 season first (box score / recap)

Réjane Vérin led all scorers with 17 points in a season-low 25 minutes of play–her previous low was 33 minutes. She is tied for the league lead in scoring at 16.9 a game, second in rebounding with 7.9 per contest, and is still first in the conference with 4.6 assists per game.

Skyler Lewis had her third double-digit scoring performance of the season with 12 points, and collected a team-high eight boards in the victory. She is averaging 8.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and shooting 61.2 (19-31) percent from the field over her last five games.

Simone DeCoud averages 12.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists a game in conference play. The senior point guard is just four assists shy of moving into second place on the program all-time assits charts.

The Highlanders have held opponents in the Big West to under 59 points, and in six of the last seven contests, teams have put up 60 or less against the blue and gold.

Winning the battle on the boards has also contributed to UCR's success this season, as they have four players (Vérin,8.5, DeCoud, Lewis 5.3, Lefebvre, 5.0) averaging over five or more rebounds a game helping create a 9.8 a game rebounding margin versus league competition.

Cal State Fullerton fell 70-51 at home to UC Davis Thursday night. The Titans had a trio score 11 points each on four made field goals in the loss–Deja Smith, Jade Vega, and Iman Lathan.

Lathan leads the Fullerton scoring attack pouring in 16.9 points a game on the year, while Smith also averages double-digits with 10.4 per contest this season.

The Titans are last in the Big West with 8.4 assists a game, and commit 17.6 turnovers for a 0.5 assist-to-turnover ratio–also the lowest in the conference.

Last Saturday, the Titans picked up their lone victory in Big West play over UC Irvine, 64-53. UCR swept the season series last year, however the clubs have split the last six meetings.
