GAME NOTES
BRING BACK THE PAST
Larry Reynolds played three years for the Highlanders, leading UC Riverside to a pair of Elite 8 appearances. When he graduated, Reynolds ranked eighth on UCR's career scoring list. He became an assistant coach for the Highlanders under another UC Riverside legend—John Masi. He patrolled the UCR sideline for nearly two decades, was a part of eleven 20-win seasons, and helped guide the 1994-95 team to the NCAA Division II National Championship game.
RUBBER MATCH
UC Riverside begins its 2017-18 regular season at Cal on Friday, November 10. The Highlanders and Golden Bears have played each other on two previous occasions, splitting the two games. UC Riverside picked up a 69-63 victory over Cal back on December 14, 1979, while the Golden Bears topped the Highlanders 78-61 on November 11, 2004. Both games were played on Cal's home court.
FRESH FROSH
Dikymbe Martin was named to the All-Big West Honorable Mention Team last season, becoming the first UC Riverside freshman to be so honored since Ricky Porter earned Second Team accolades in the 2005-06 campaign.
SO YOU"RE SAYING THERE'S A CHANCE
Senior Chance Murray is the Highlanders' leading returning scorer from last season after averaging 10.2 points per game. He is also UC Riverside's leading returning rebounder at 5.2 carroms per contest.
THE GAME
The Highlanders travel to Michigan this season for the first time in program history. As part of that trip, the UC Riverside traveling party is attending "The Game"—the biggest rivalry in college sports featuring the Michigan and Ohio State football teams.
GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
The Highlanders graduated three players from last year's squad—Secean Johnson (12.0 ppg, 5.7 rpg), Malik Thames (8.3 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.0 apg) and Gentrey Thomas (8.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg).
