San Diego, CA–The UC Riverside Softball Team will play San Diego State and Washington on Thursday, February 16th in a shortened version of the Campbell/Cartier Classic at 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm respectively.

The Highlanders were originally scheduled to play four games this weekend, however the three teams in the event that hail from the Midwest and beyond all decided to pull out of the tournament, as the forecast calls for heavy rain throughout the weekend in San Diego.

Last weekend in the Kajikawa Classic, UC Riverside picked up its first win of 2017 on a walk-off single from Chelsey Holley over UTA, 6-5 (story).

On the final day of the event, they got standout performances from freshman Haley Marschall, who allowed just one run in a complete-game seven-hitter, and Jenae Lockwood, who hit the first homer of the season for UCR (story).

Maddy Richard hit a team-leading .385, and scored three runs, while recording Big West leading totals in walks (5) and stolen bases (4) in the season's opening weekend.

As a team, UCR leads the league in stolen bases with seven, and walks drawn per contest with 3.8.

In the first game of the day, the Highlanders will face an Aztec team that suffered two of their three losses against ranked teams last weekend, #8 UCLA and #22 Notre Dame–the other defeat coming against Long Beach State.

Kiera Wright leads the San Diego State hitting .474, and has a team-high nine hits this season, while Katie Byrd hits .467 and tops the squad with five RBIs, and five runs scored. SDSU leads the all-time series 5-3, but UCR has taken two of the last three. The clubs last met in 2013.

Washington moved up five spots in the NCAA rankings to #8 after knocking off #1 Oklahoma (1-0) and #2 Auburn (2-1) in Puerto Vallarta. The Huskies also got past the 49ers on Tuesday, 9-1, in Long Beach.

Sophomore pitcher Teran Alvelo was in the circle for the victories over the Sooners and Tigers, which earned her Pac-12 and NFCA Pticher of the Week honors. The Huskies lead the all-time series 3-0.
