Men's Soccer Falls Just Short In Nine-Goal Overtime Thriller At Grand Canyon

Phoenix, AZ—The UCR Men's Soccer Team put together its best offensive performance of the season facing Grand Canyon Thursday night, but conceded a goal with just three seconds remaining in the first overtime to fall 5-4.

The nine total goals were the most of any game in recorded history for the Highlanders.
Emilio Huerta's goal in the 10th minute was the second of his career. His lone score prior to Thursday came on October 8, 2016 in UCR's 2-0 win over Sacramento State (box score / recap)
Also notching his first goal of the season was junior forward Antonio Lokossou, whose 64th minute strike gave him the fourth score of his career.
Anthony Lopez and Roberto Garcia-Vargas both notched the first goals of their career in the final ten minutes of regulation.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Vincent Morales tallied all seven UCR saves on the night, surpassing the previous season-high of six.
The Highlanders' 17 shots were the most they've had since putting up 18 in a 2-0 win over San Jose State on September 23, 2016 (box score / recap). Their eight shots on frame set another season-high and were the most since notching ten against San Francisco on September 25, 2016 (box score / recap)
