RIVERSIDE, Calif. – This Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. at Lake Alice Trading Co., the UC Riverside Athletics Department will host its final Coaches' Show of the 2017-18 school year, streamed live on the
City of Riverside Youtube Channel.
The Highlanders' recently revamped men's basketball staff of Head Coach David Patrick and newly appointed assistant coaches
Mike Magpayo and Liam Simmons will be making their Coaches Show debuts on the heels of a busy month of April.
The men's basketball program has had no shortage of big news to follow over the past several weeks – Coach Patrick's
introductory reception; the additions of Australian-born guard
Dragan Elkaz, New Zealand U19 National Teamer
Callum McRae, Frisco, Texas native
Zac Watson, and UTSA transfer
George Willborn III to the roster; and the announcement of
Magpayo and Simmons' hires, to name a few – all of which will be discussed by the coaches for the first time on the Lake Alice stage along with the Highlander men's basketball broadcast team of
Pep Fernandez and
Geoff Gorham.
UCR Track and Field and Softball will also be highlighted on the show, as both programs continue building momentum towards the end of their respective spring seasons.
Representing track and field alongside Head Coach
Nate Browne and assistant coach Rob Hansen will be distance runners
Heinrich Van Niekerk and
Ethan Van Setten. Both are coming off another impressive outing at the
Steve Scott Invitational over the weekend which saw Van Niekerk set a new lifetime-best of 1:50.06 in the Men's 800m – good for second in school history – followed by a fourth-place finish from Van Setten just two seconds later.
Head Softball Coach
Nikki Palmer will be joined by standout pitcher
Hailey Dolcini fresh off the Highlanders' doubleheader sweep of Hawaii this past Saturday.
Dolcini's name has been a regular fixture in the headlines these past two months, most recently stealing the spotlight with the first no-hitter of the
Nikki Palmer era in a 6-0 win over CSUN on April 14.
An impressive start to Dolcini's freshman season was punctuated in mid-March when she embarked on a 46-inning scoreless streak to take home back-to-back Big West Pitcher of the Week honors. The Ferndale, Calif. native currently ranks third in the conference in ERA (1.76) and is second-to-none in wins (13) among Big West freshmen.
UCR Athletics would like to thank our friends at Riverside TV, Lake Alice, the Inland Sports Radio Show, and, most importantly, to the entirety of our dedicated Highlander faithful for your support in helping us bring you another wonderful year of the UC Riverside Coaches Show... Go Highlanders!
