8 Service Aces UCR All-Time & Big West Season Best
IRVINE, Calif.— Outside hitter Amarachi Osuji set a single-match UC Riverside record in the Division I era with 8 service aces Saturday against UC Irvine as the Anteaters outlasted the Highlanders in four sets, 21-25, 22-25, 25-18, 18-25.
Â
Osuji's 8 aces set the single-match mark for the Big West Conference this season and tied for 3rd nationally in the NCAA for a four-set match this year. Dejah Dade delivered 36 assists, 13 digs and 2 block assists to anchor the UCR defense, and Deja Bickers added 11 kills for the Highlanders (4-10, 0-4 Big West). Despite taking the Anteaters (10-4, 3-1 Big West) deep in every set with rallies testing both sides, UCR emerged winless for the weekend and continues to search for its first conference win of the year.
Â
The Highlanders return home to host Cal Poly Thursday, Oct. 7, at 5 p.m., followed by CSU Bakersfield Saturday, Oct. 8, at 4 p.m. at SRC Arena, half a four-match homestand followed by UC Santa Barbara Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. and CSUN Oct. 16 at 5 p.m. before heading back on the road Oct. 22 to Long Beach State.
