UC Riverside Jumps Two Spots after 36 Holes in New Mexico

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – UC Riverside climbed two spots in the team leaderboard, while Kate Villegas and Tiffany Le jumped one spot each on the individual leaderboard in Tuesday's second round at the Golf Iconic Classic at the University Golf Course in Las Cruces, New Mexico. 

The Highlanders jumped two spots as a team into 11th after 36 holes in the Land of Enchantment, shaving six strokes off Monday's first round with a 13-stroke gap separating places 8 and 12 ahead of Wednesday's round three. 

Le birdied holes six and eight for the second consecutive day, also going 1-under on 16 after a double bogey on Monday. She is now tied for second in the field with a 2.75 average on par 3 scoring, going bogey free on all such holes after 36 holes. Villegas shot for par on 12 of 18 holes on Tuesday. 

Gabrielle Kiger improved her standing by six spots on the leaderboard after shooting a 76 on Tuesday with birdies on four and 12. Ultimately, five of six Highlanders improved their leaderboard positioning on Tuesday, highlighted by Maleyna Gregorio jumping nine spots after shaving five strokes off the back nine and three off the front nine. 

UCR will wrap up the Golf Iconic Classic on Wednesday from New Mexico.
