RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Callum McRae has been named Big West Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by the conference office.
This is the second award for a Highlander this season following Zyon Pullin's recognition on December 13.
McRae averaged 15.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists in two wins last week for UC Riverside, going a combined 13 of 22 from the field over the weekend. The Kiwi went for 16 points, seven rebounds and seven assists against CSU Bakersfield, and two days later, registered his fifth double double of the season (15 points, 10 rebounds) to help UCR complete the season sweep of Cal Poly.
The New Zealand native has now logged 16 assists in his last three games, going for back-to-back career highs of seven dimes each against CSU Bakersfield and the Mustangs, and is also now 10 rebounds shy of entering the program's career top 10. McRae has enjoyed double digit scoring in his last five games and is now averaging 10.0 points per game for the first time since the season opener against San Diego State.
McRae's efforts also helped UCR jump out to its best 12-game start at home since starting 10-2 inside the SRC Arena in 2014-15.
UC Riverside is back in action on Thursday, February 24 to host CSUN in the Salute to Service game, with a t-shirt giveaway courtesy of Magnolia Heating and Cooling. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
