RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UCR played its second midweek contest of the season on Tuesday afternoon at the Riverside Sports Complex, falling, 6-2 to UNLV.Â
Â
The Highlanders' bats put UNLV on its heels in the fourth inning, as Sean McLeod worked a full count and singled through the left side. Joey Nicolai singled and advanced on the throw, allowing McLeod to wheel over to third, but UCR was unable to bring either baserunner home.Â
Â
UC Riverside's offense came alive in the sixth inning with some aggressive hitting from the top of the lineup. Anthony McFarland started off the inning with a single, then UCR went back to the top of the lineup where Andrew Gamez doubled to move McFarland over to third.Â
Â
Nicolai brought both runners home on an RBI double to left field in the first pitch of his at-bat, stretching his current hit streak to three games. After his single in the fourth inning, Nicolai's double made it a team-high six multi-hit games this season for the redshirt freshman.
Â
The Highlanders put another runner on third an inning later. Mason Grace reached on a dropped fly ball in right field, then advanced two stations on Anthony McFarland's single.Â
Â
McFarland, who entered the afternoon with just three hits to his credit this season, went 2 for 3 against the Rebels with a run.Â
Â
UC Riverside resumes Big West action this weekend, traveling to Cal State Fullerton for a three-game series starting on Friday, March 25 at 7:00 p.m.
