Box Score DAVIS, Calif. - UC Riverside returned to Dobbins Field for Saturday's game two at UC Davis, securing the 7-5 win.
The Highlanders survived a late scare to pick up their first win since March 27.
UCR struck first blood, scoring immediately in the first with Anthony McFarland's single to third. Nick Poss recorded his third RBI in his last four games, getting hit in the fourth to walk Dominic Martinez in from third.
Martinez's run was part of a four-run fourth for the Highlanders, the second in two days that followed Friday's four-run fifth. Anthony Mata, who did not see action against UC Davis last year in Riverside, kicked off the inning with his fourth run of the series in go-ahead fashion.
Tyler Weaver broke out of a hitting slump to go 2 for 4 in game two with three RBI. Saturday was the fifth time this season a Highlander has driven in three runs in a game, and first since Mason Grace last weekend against Cal State Fullerton.
UC Riverside tacked on one more run in the seventh with Martinez's single to center field, and the Highlander defense bounced back from a rough ending the day before to hang on. UC Davis pulled back two runs in the seventh in an attempt at another big late inning before UCR added insurance in the eighth. The Aggies threatened again in the ninth, but with no luck.
The win sets up Sunday's rubber match, where the Highlanders have a chance to take a series from UC Davis for the third year in a row. First pitch from Davis is set for 1:00 p.m.
