FULLERTON, Calif. - The Highlanders scored twice in the first inning and got another quality start from
Matthew O'Brien, but the Titans scored five runs late to win game two, 5-2.
David Gibbs led the game off with a single to right on the first pitch of the game. After a balk,
Lucas Bonham continued to drive in runs and promptly doubled off the left field all giving UCR a 1-0 lead. Bonham advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a
Jarren Sanderson sac-fly to center making it 2-0 UCR. Those were all the runs the Highlanders would score.
O'Brien got the start after a wonderful game against Cal Poly last weekend, when the lefty went the distance and the Highlanders won 10-4. Tonight he turned in another strong effort. He went 6.1 innings giving up two runs and scattered seven hits. He struck out three and only threw 85 pitches.
The Titans scored three in the seventh. After the first two hitters reached, O'Brien gave way to
Marco DiGirolamo. The righty almost to out of the inning giving up a single run, but a defensive miscue led to two more runs coming across. The Titans scored two more in the bottom of the eighth to give them the 5-2 lead.
In the top of the ninth Sanderson got a two out single but was stranded at first.
The series finale is set for tomorrow at 1PM from Goodwin Field.
