RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside hosted the UCR Invitational, its first of two meets this season, on Saturday morning at the Ag/Ops Course in Riverside.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Up first for UC Riverside was the Women's 6k Invite, where Alexis Corvese led the way for the Highlanders with a 52nd-place finish. Sophia Budd continued to climb the results with each split finishing her first collegiate 6k in 22:25.0.
- Makayla Anderson ran unattached in the Women's Open and was ahead of the squad in the first split, but Zoe Smith led UCR at that point of the Women's Open with a four-second margin ahead of Isabella Carranza. Carranza jumped 16 spots at the 4k split.
- Anderson made an eight-spot jump at the final split and finished her collegiate debut in 19:32.8.
- Gavyn Condit was 39th overall at the 2k split of the Men's 8k Open, followed by Felix Diaz in 51st. Andrew Parkinson jumped 41 spots at the 4k split and 11 more at the 5.5k split to enter the top 40 while Bailey Rockholt cracked the top 70 at the 7.5k split. Parkinson had one last push in him at the finish, jumping 10 spots for a 25th-place finish to lead UC Riverside.
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
- Corvese led UC Riverside women officially in her Highlander debut, clocking in at 21:42.3 for a 52nd-place finish in the 6k Invite.
- UCR men finished seventh in the 8k Open, led by Parkinson in 25th. The Highlanders had three men finish in the top 75 in addition to Parkinson, featuring Condit (57th) and Rockholt (66th).

"We had some good competition this morning and some really big PRs on both the men's and women's side, which was really encouraging. We held some people out as we're heading to Eugene next week for the Dellinger Invite, but I'm still really proud of the efforts on the course today."
